Southern Pacific SD units in the Black Widow paint scheme have a good roll on a heavy train.

July 1966.  Oil painting on Canvas    Its midsummer, and we are trackside at Holbrook Arizona.  A headlight appears in the distance, and a flash of red and silver roars past. Children cover their ears.   A sack of mail is snatched by the RPO car and the train is past in an instant..

Diesel  Locomotive Paintings

Here are a few  of my paintings of colorful first generation diesel locomotives as they looked in the 1950s and 1960s.

Twilight at Sayre   It is nearly sunset at the Lehigh Valley's big shop at Sayre.   An Alco FA rests beneath the sanding tower while a pair of EMD F units idles in the background.  Oil on stretched canvas 18 x 24 inches.

The Prospector    Oil painting on canvas  At Winter Park, Colorado, A Rio Grande Alco PA  emerges from the West Portal of the Moffat Tunnel with a short passenger train, the Prospector.   

Erie Lackawanna Holiday.  With the decline of passenger service, the EL put its big E units into freight service.   Here, along the Southern Tier of New York State, EL units roll though freshly fallen snow in the cold light of a winter afternoon.  Oil painting on archival canvas panel.
